Frequently asked questions
Common questions we receive before teams adopt Amethyst.
Service overview and comparisons
What kind of tool is Amethyst?
Amethyst is a search-marketing analytics SaaS developed and provided by JADE. It uses Google Search Console and GA4 data to support index-status investigation, search-traffic analysis, and on-site user-behavior analysis in one platform.
Why not use Google Search Console or GA4 directly?
Search Console and GA4 are designed primarily for viewing data, and they are not ideal for large-scale sites or continuous monitoring. Amethyst uses BigQuery Export to enable long-term storage of large datasets, granular analysis, URL-group change tracking, and natural-language questions through AI. It helps teams understand the reason behind changes, which is difficult with standalone tools.
How is Amethyst different from using BigQuery ourselves?
Using BigQuery directly requires SQL knowledge, data-pipeline construction, and ongoing management. Amethyst includes the BigQuery integration in the product, so all features are available for the tool fee, with some data-management costs required in certain cases. Teams can analyze through the GUI or AI chat without writing queries, even without engineers dedicated to analytics operations.
We already use SEO tools. Do we still need Amethyst?
The purpose is often different. Many SEO tools focus on competitive research, while Amethyst uses official Google data from Search Console and GA4 as the source of truth and focuses on deep analysis of changes specific to your own site. Very few tools provide crawl status, index rate, search traffic, and user behavior in one workflow.
What is Amethyst AI?
Amethyst AI is an assistant that lets you ask questions about your own site data in natural language. You can ask questions such as why traffic dropped last week or which page groups are growing, and it answers using Search Console and GA4 data. It makes analysis accessible even without deep SEO expertise.
What kinds of companies and roles is Amethyst for?
Amethyst is suitable for teams that use search as a starting point for acquisition and business improvement, including in-house marketers, SEO and content teams, web directors, business owners, and analysts who want to turn search-traffic changes into action.
It is especially useful for organizations that already check Search Console and GA4 regularly but spend too much time identifying causes, prioritizing issues, and sharing findings with stakeholders.
Pricing and contracts
What pricing plans are available?
There are four plans: Solo ($199.00/month), In-House ($650.00/month), Agency ($650.00/month), and Enterprise. Annual payment includes a substantial discount by plan.
See the pricing page for details.
Is there an initial fee for plans other than Solo?
Yes. When signing a new contract for any plan other than Solo, an Initial Consulting Support Fee of $900 (tax included) is required separately.
What is the difference between In-House and Agency?
The price, user count, and number of analyzable sites are the same, but the number of workspaces differs.
- In-House 1 workspace for your own sites.
- Agency 3 workspaces for separating client management.
What is a workspace?
A workspace is the unit for managing data and settings in Amethyst. Site connections, dashboards, and user permissions can be managed separately by workspace.
Is Amethyst AI billed separately?
Basic AI functionality (AI Standard) is included in each plan and supports Claude Haiku, Sonnet, and Gemini Flash. To use higher-accuracy models such as Claude Opus and Gemini Pro, you need the AI PRO option (+$200.00/month).
Can Amethyst AI be used without limits?
No. Each plan (AI Standard / AI PRO) has a monthly usage quota. The quota resets every month, and remaining quota can be checked from the settings screen.
Should we choose monthly or annual billing?
Annual billing provides a substantial plan-by-plan discount. You can start with monthly billing if you want to try Amethyst first, then switch to annual billing once continued usage is confirmed.
Is the number of analyzable sites fixed by plan?
Yes. Solo supports 1 site, and In-House and Agency support 6 sites. For Agency, that is 2 sites per workspace across 3 workspaces. Enterprise can be adjusted flexibly as needed.
Can we cancel at any time?
Please contact us for details about contract terms and cancellation rules.
Implementation and integrations
What technical preparation is required for implementation?
There are two main steps.
- 1 Enable BigQuery Export for Google Search Console (GSC) and GA4.
- 2 Connect a Google account with administrator permissions for the GSC property to Amethyst.
Once these settings are complete, Amethyst can start analysis.
See the Quick Start Guide for details.
Can we implement Amethyst without engineers?
Some technical work is involved in BigQuery Export and GCP service-account connection, but documentation and support are available. Plans other than Solo include Initial Consulting Support to help teams get started smoothly.
Can we connect multiple Search Console properties?
Yes. In-House can connect up to 15 properties, and Agency can connect up to 5 properties per workspace. Enterprise is handled as a custom plan.
Can we use an existing BigQuery dataset?
Yes. You can connect Amethyst to a dataset in a GCP project where BigQuery Export data is already stored. This allows you to start analysis from historical data immediately.
What Google account permissions are required?
The service account used by Amethyst to connect to BigQuery needs read access to the BigQuery dataset. Search Console and GA4 administration permissions are also required during initial setup.
Features and analysis
What can Index Worker do?
Index Worker uses the URL Inspection API to continuously monitor crawl status and index-rate trends. It visualizes URL-level statuses and reasons for non-indexing, helping teams track status changes across URL groups over time. It is especially useful for index management on large sites.
What can Search Analytics do?
Search Analytics uses Search Console BigQuery Export data to analyze changes in clicks, impressions, CTR, and rank by individual query or URL, and by query or URL group. It can also export daily data to Google Sheets for automated recurring reports.
What can User Analytics do?
User Analytics uses GA4 BigQuery Export data to analyze post-visit behavior and conversions. It supports behavior visualization by URL group and deeper inspection of individual sessions through Session Explorer.
Which models does Amethyst AI use?
Amethyst AI supports Claude by Anthropic and Gemini by Google. AI Standard supports Haiku, Sonnet, and Gemini Flash, while AI PRO supports higher-accuracy models such as Opus and Gemini Pro.
What is a URL group?
A URL group is a feature for defining URL patterns such as /category/ or /product/ and analyzing traffic, behavior, and index status by that group. It is useful when you want to manage and analyze page groups rather than individual URLs.
What is a query group?
A query group is a way to organize search queries by intent or theme, such as branded and non-branded terms, product categories, or user needs. It helps teams understand impressions, clicks, and rank changes by a group of search needs instead of by individual query.
How long is analysis data retained?
It depends on the source data stored in BigQuery. If data is stored in your own environment, the available period depends on your retention settings. If you entrust data to Amethyst, Amethyst can retain and reference up to the past 24 months of data. This applies only to Google Search Console data and is longer than the 16 months available in the Search Console UI.
Can we analyze historical data?
Amethyst can reference data only after it has been exported to BigQuery. If export has not been enabled yet, past data before export is not available. If the necessary data has already been exported to your own BigQuery environment, Amethyst can reference that data for historical analysis.
Operations and support
What support is available?
We provide email and chat support, a user community, a Quick Start Guide, and practical guides. Plans other than Solo also include Initial Consulting Support.
What is the free individual consultation?
It is a one-hour private session where a JADE SEO consultant answers concrete questions about Search Console analysis, monitoring, and operations for your site. It is especially intended for large-scale and database-driven sites.
How can permissions be managed when using Amethyst as a team?
You can invite users to a workspace and manage access based on roles.
Security and data
Where is data stored?
Amethyst analyzes data by connecting to Google BigQuery datasets in your GCP project. The data itself remains stored in your GCP project, and Amethyst reads it through BigQuery.
Will our data be used for AI training?
No. Your site data is not used for AI training.
